Malaysian Education System

Learning suppose to be fun. But, I find it almost impossible to feel that way. I’ve been struggling started from primary school, secondary school and up until now to find something that will attract my interest towards learning.  But i find it very difficult. School is a lot of fun, except from the academic point of view.

Lets talk about Malaysian Education System. Before that, I’ll like state that this entry doesn’t meant of criticizing or condemning the system, it’s just a sharing of what I’ve been through for the past 6+5+1+4 years of so called “Malaysian Education System”.

Okay here it goes…

Firstly we are exposed to too much theoretical lessons instead of practical one. It is good to know everything but that doesn’t mean you need to learn everything. It is better if a student were channeled to the area he/she’s having most interest in instead of learning the whole thing only to be washed away in the end of the day (when the exam’s over).

Exam oriented. Yes, exam is important to evaluate the level of understanding/achievements of one particular student. But having an exam has detour the student goal of learning towards it, instead of it supposedly main objective of understanding the damn thing.

This will also prepares the student with an unwanted “soft skills” of plagiarism or more famously called toyol…Understanding in the class is not important anymore. What’s more important is how you prepare yourself for the final exam. So “now…everybody can score…” This is really against the actual concept of learning. So, I’m really against it.

Experiment.It is not done to foster the level of understanding. It’s because its compulsory, it is a requirement for certain subject. In the end of the lab session you will need to submit a report based on your “own” understanding of the experiment “you” have carried out. What happen most of the time?? Most of the students already have the copy of report of their senior from the previous year which is actually copied by their senior from the previous senior… see, it keeps on going if you didn’t stop it…

Lecturer: Any question up to this point?

Students: Nooo…

It’s either they totally understand the whole damn thing or they want to leave early but the latter one is more appropriate. Maybe we’re being too nice. “Don’t want to trouble this old man“…

p/s: I’ll be graduating very soon…to those having another few years to endure…tough luck!..lol
